Fine crystalline white powder, bitter taste, stable in acidic medium. Slightly soluble in water, practically insoluble in alcohol. Ampicillin – a semisynthetic antibiotic derived by acylation of aminopenicillanic acid. The drug is not destroyed in the acidic environment of the stomach, so it is well absorbed when taken orally. Active against gram-positive bacteria, which operates benzylpenicillin. However, in addition, it operates on a number of gram-negative bacteria (Salmonella, Shigella, Proteus, E. coli, bacillus of Friedlander, Haemophilus influenzae) and is therefore seen as a broad-spectrum antibiotic and is used in diseases caused by mixed infection.

Ampicillin (Acillin)

Ampicillin is used to treat patients with pneumonia, lung abscess, tonsillitis, peritonitis, cholecystitis, sepsis, intestinal infections, postoperative infections and other infections caused by microorganisms.

The drug is highly effective in urinary tract infections caused by Escherichia coli , Proteus , or mixed infection , as it stands unchanged in the urine in high concentrations. Dosage

Take ampicillin with water ( regardless of the meal ) . Single dose of 0.5 grams for adults . Daily dose 2 – 3 grams . Children dose is calculated at the rate of 100 mg / kg . The daily dose is divided into 4 – 6 receptions . Do not take more then prescribed! Duration of treatment depends on the severity of the disease ( 5 – 10 days to 2 – 3 weeks ) or more (depending on the effectiveness of therapy).
